No harm can come from using the Bowen Technique.
WHAT HAPPENS IN A SESSION?
Bowen sessions generally last between 40 minutes and an hour, though they can be shorter, depending on what procedures are being carried out.
The moves are gentle but focussed, and can be done through light clothing if the client prefers. Clients usually lie on a treatment table, or can be seated in a chair, if required, for comfort.
A Bowtech session involves one or more procedures, each one consisting of several sets of “moves”. There are pauses between these sets of moves in order to allow time for the body to respond.
WHAT IS THE BOWEN TECHNIQUE AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
The Bowen technique is based on the idea that our autonomic nervous system, which controls many of our bodily functions and helps to repair the body when things go wrong, doesn’t work as efficiently when stressed. To be able to do its job properly, it needs to be relaxed and not over-stimulated.
The Bowen practitioner delivers signals to the nervous system at specific locations (on muscles, tendons, ligaments, or nerves) and the body does the rest, responding in its own time, as it is able.
Results from the Bowen technique can be remarkable, even from the first session. In many cases only a few sessions are needed to correct the presenting problem. There are frequent but very essential pauses throughout the session that allows the body time to respond and begin the healing process. The practitioner can target a specific problem or address the body as a whole.
Unlike many other hands-on therapies, the Bowen Technique does not use forceful manipulation. Therefore the treatment is non-intrusive and pain free. The Bowen Technique addresses not only the musculo-skeletal framework, but also the fascia, nerves and internal organs. The body’s integrated response improves circulation and lymphatic drainage as well as aiding in the assimilation of nutrients and the elimination of toxins.
