Achieving optimal health naturally using Bowen therapy

About us

I am a qualified teacher and have been a teacher for 21 years.

A number of years ago I was diagnosed with osteo-arthritis in my right hip, which meant that I was unable to continue living the active, fulfilling life that I had been used to. After a year of physiotherapy, then another year of osteopathy, taking an increasing number of pain killers with no improvement, I finally resorted to seeing an orthopaedic surgeon.

I was considered too young for a hip replacement, so underwent an osteotomy – where the femur was cut, a section removed and the femur was then rotated. A plate was inserted to hold the femur together in that position. The operation was only marginally successful, and it wasn’t long before the pain was back so severely that I only had 2-3 hours of broken sleep at night. I was back to taking high doses of painkillers and anti-inflammatories, and was told by the specialist that that was all I could do until I had a full hip replacement. Even my ability to teach was largely restricted.

It was then that I met a woman who was training as a Bowen Practitioner. Her son had had severe croup and after many visits to her Doctor without success, she had found that The Bowen Technique had given him almost instant relief. I had never heard of this treatment but as she had a university science background I was interested in what she had to say.

Not wanting to get involved in anything that I considered “flakey” I decided to do some research for myself. I found that the further I looked into “Bowtech: The Original Bowen Technique” the more satisfied I was that it had a sound basis that would not conflict with my more traditional view about medicine and healing. For me the only thing to then do was begin treatment to see for myself. So I booked for the standard initial three sessions.

I found that there were instant responses: the hay fever that I had suffered from for about 12 years disappeared; my sleep patterns improved remarkably; my restricted left shoulder became free and painless; and lastly my hip improved considerably.

Although the Bowen therapy has not been a complete cure for the arthritis, it has stopped further deterioration, provided considerable relief, and my quality of life is vastly better. I take no pain killers, apart from the very occasional paracetomal, and am able to exercise again. I sleep, undisturbed, all night.

As a result of these changes, I wanted to know more about the treatment that could achieve such significant results in such an unobtrusive and gentle, yet effective way.

I have therefore trained in and have become a qualified and registered Bowtech practitioner (see professional standards), in the belief that I can offer the same opportunities for other people.
